Suder calls for immediate end to DNR and HSUS partnership

Abbotsford (Press Release) - Representative Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford) spoke out this week against the partnership formed between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). The groups recently joined forces to air radio ads reminding people about the dangers of taking wild animals home.
"It is simply unacceptable that the DNR would team up with a group like the HSUS that has tried to outlaw hunting and fishing in Wisconsin," said Suder. "Don't be confused by their name, these are not the people that run animal shelters across the state, these are the people that want to end all hunting and fishing in the state and that have also gone on the offensive against Wisconsin farmers. And for some reason the DNR wants to team up with them."
Several groups have announced their opposition to the partnership of the DNR and HSUS including the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, the Wisconsin Farm Bureau and the U.S. Sportsmen Alliance. The HSUS opposed the popular mentored youth hunting program in Wisconsin. The radical group opposes the delisting of the grey wolf from the endangered species list and has also filed lawsuits to end hunting seasons in California and Wyoming.
"I am calling for the DNR to immediately end their partnership with the HSUS and make public any other financial support they may have provided the group," Suder said. "We need the DNR to be clear that they will act to protect hunting and fishing in the state by cutting any and all ties with groups that wish to end these Wisconsin traditions."
