MADISON, Wis. - Following up on a successful pilot effort in 2016, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is again offering advertising opportunities in the upcoming Guide to Wisconsin Hook and Line Fishing Regulations.

The 2017-18 fishing regulation pamphlet represents an effective way to capture attention from Wisconsin's angling audience and reaches some 1.3 million license-carrying anglers. The publication is a trusted, go-to resource for everything from seasonal guidelines to bag limits and length requirements. Advertising messages reach anglers throughout the year and are displayed in both print and online versions of the publication.

DNR fisheries biologist and project manager Karl Scheidegger said nationwide, about three quarters of the other states now offer advertising in their fishing regulations books as a way to help defray costs of the publication and allow more state funds to go directly toward making fishing better. During the first year of the Wisconsin effort, businesses, chambers of commerce and other organizations participated, Scheidegger said.

Fishing in Wisconsin is one of the state's most beloved pastimes and recreational activities. It is also big business as anglers collectively spend more than 21 million days fishing Wisconsin waters and generate a significant economic impact. In addition, sales for fishing trip-related equipment contribute nearly $1.5 billion in direct expenditures.

The Guide to Wisconsin Hook and Line Fishing Regulations 2017-18 offers a limited amount of space for advertising. Ad placements will have a minimum price for a specific size, page and/or location. Space will be awarded based on the highest offered price. Review the details and advertising prospectus at and act quickly to become one of the fortunate advertisers in this year's guide. DNR will accept offers through the final deadline of Dec. 2, 2016.
