Public open house to review alternatives August 31

MUKWONAGO, Wis. -- The public has an opportunity at an upcoming public open house to review and comment on master plan alternatives for the Mukwonago River Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest and Lulu Lake State Natural Area.

The open house will provide an opportunity to review and comment on four planning alternatives that propose different options for recreation and conservation actions. These alternatives range from providing limited improvements that keep the rustic character of the properties to improving access and developing park like features and services for expanded recreation opportunities. The alternatives also take into account the connectivity between the properties.

After this review period, the department will use this information to create a draft master plan that will be available for public review and comment later this year.

The Mukwonago River Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest and Lulu Lake State Natural Area are located in Waukesha and Walworth Counties that consist of 3,347 acres of varying landscapes and water features for public use.

The alternatives and other documents are available by searching the Wisconsin DNR website dnr.wi.gov for keywords "master planning" and then clicking on the link for the Southern Kettle Moraine Waters master plan."

The open house will run from 5 to 7 p.m. with a short presentation summarizing the alternatives at 5:15 p.m. and will be held Monday, August 31 at the Mukwonago Town Hall, W320 S8315 Beulah Road, Mukwonago.

People may also provide comments on the alternatives during the open houses as well as online or by U.S. mail. The comment deadline is September 15, 2015.
