Any Advice....1st time S.Dakota pheasant trip

Discussion in 'Upland Game hunting, Dogs and dog training' started by gspbrody, May 12, 2009.

  1. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice or leads as to a good location/area for a first time pheasant hunting trip this fall to South Dakota. I have two shorthairs (4 yr old, 1 yr old) and want to find a friendly place to stay for me and a couple buddies. I'm not quite ready for the guided/lodge/$$$$ hunt yet, I'd feel more comfortable pounding out the public land I think? Thanks in advance for any info.

I hunt and Guide in SD. In the Dolan SD. area which is about 45 min. west of Watertown. I don't think you can go wrong in that area they have some great public hunting areas. Good luck to you

  3. I've hunted both the chamberlain area and the Lake Preston area, and both areas had decent populations but I was a little more impressed with the Lake preston area. Good luck
