MERCER, Wis. - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is currently seeking comments regarding a proposed Master Plan Variance to relocate approximately 1,550 feet of Snowmobile Trail 10 from private property onto state owned property within the Turtle Flambeau Scenic Waters Area.

The current property master plan does not allow for additional snowmobile trail development, so a plan variance is required to authorize this change. This proposed plan change is consistent with the property's goals and objectives and does not significantly change the current use or recreational character of the area.

Written comments regarding the proposed trail re-route can be sent to Mercer DNR Ranger Station, 5291 N. State House Circle, Mercer, WI 54547 or via email to [email protected] before 5 p.m. Feb. 5. For more information, visit and search keywords "Turtle Flambeau."

Snowmobile Trail 10 existed prior to state purchase of the Turtle Flambeau Scenic Waters Area and was designated in the property master plan to remain. The Iron County Forestry Department has received notice from a landowner that they are requiring the portion of snowmobile Trail 10 currently located on a private 40 acre parcel, SWSW, Sec. 17, T42N, R4E, be removed. The Iron County Forestry Department is requesting the trail be relocated onto Turtle Flambeau Scenic Waters Area land.
