Preliminary study findings on Fox River Dam in Montello to be presented on September 25th

MONTELLO, Wis. -- The Department of Natural Resources will hold a public meeting on Saturday, September 25, 2010 to provide information to the public about the preliminary findings of a recent study of the Fox River Dam at Montello at the Andy Krakow Public Fishing and Access Site. The meeting will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon in the Community Room at the Montello High School located at 222 Forest Lane in Montello.

The architectural and engineering firm, AECOM of Middleton, was hired by the state to determine the extent of safety deficiencies in the 150-year old structure. AECOM was also asked to perform further structural analysis of the dike, water control gates, and the spillway to determine the condition of those structures and provide alternative repair solutions with cost estimates. Recreational facility development options are included in the alternatives.

This evaluation will be the basis for a study report providing the DNR and the Department of Administration with recommendations and cost estimates for repair or reconstruction of the dam.

Representatives of AECOM will be present at the meeting and will provide a brief overview of their findings. Department of Natural Resources staff will be present to discuss the various options with the public.

It should be noted that the information presented at the meeting will represent preliminary findings. The final report from AECOM will be completed in December.
