    HORICON, Wis. - August marks the grand opening of the new Horicon Marsh Explorium and now is the time to get the family out and enjoy the fun happenings and scenery at Horicon Marsh. All programs are free and open to the public and do not require advance registration, unless stated otherwise.

    • August 15, 6:30 -8:30 p.m.: Movies at the Marsh.
      The Movies at the Marsh series continues with a screening of "Lion King 1 1/2," a family-friendly movie. Don't miss this opportunity to see your favorite movies on the big screen. All movies are family-friendly (rated G or PG), free and open to the public. Refreshments are available. Please use the lower entrance.
    • August 21, 7:30 -8:30 p.m.: Sunset Hike
      Join a wildlife educator for a guided sunset hike at the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. Watch as resident birds fly back into the marsh to roost and you can enjoy the spectacular view of the sunset.
    • August 22, 10 a.m. -5 p.m.: Grand Opening of the Explorium
      Guest speakers, ribbon cutting, live animals, guided hikes, crafts and more at the Grand Opening of the Horicon Marsh Explorium. Entrance to the Explorium is free for the day. Visit "Horicon Marsh" to learn more and to register for a tour of the Explorium or a guided hike.

    Week of August 24-28

    • August 24
      • Prairie Walk, 10 a.m. Join staff for a prairie walk and view the blooming native wildflowers.
      • Dip Netting, 6:30 p.m. Bring the family for dip netting and see what kind of unique creatures you can find living in the marsh.
    • August 25
      • Beginning Birding, 10 a.m. View resident birds with a Beginning Birding program.
      • Predators of the Marsh, 6:30 p.m.
    • August 26
      • Dip Netting, 10 a.m.
      • Beginning Birding, 6:30 p.m.
    • August 27
      • Archery day 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Come try out the National Archery in the Schools (NASP) equipment and see if you can hit the target!
    • August 28
      • Wild Edibles of the Marsh, 10 a.m.
      • Night Sounds Hike, 6:30 p.m. Come listen for the sounds of the marsh.
    • August 29,
      • Edible Berries, 10-11 a.m. Join Master Naturalist, Chris Lilek, as she explains why all berries aren't good to eat. Come find out which ones are a delicious treat!

    The Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center is located between the towns of Horicon and Mayville on Hwy. 28.
