HORICON, Wis. - The New Year means a number of new programs at Horicon Marsh in January, including a wildlife walk and stories at the marsh event. And, don't forget to check out the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center's new Explorium.

Each January event is free of charge and does not require advance registration. The Horicon Marsh Education Center and Explorium will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan 1.

    • Jan. 7, 10 -11 a.m. - Stories at the Marsh
Join a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources educator for a morning of storytelling and craft-making at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. "Wondering About Winter" will be January's theme - head to the marsh to learn more about the amazing wildlife and how they survive Wisconsin's chilly winters. Please use the lower entrance.

    • Jan. 9, 1-2:30 p.m. - Walk it Off With Winter Wildlife
The public is invited to join a DNR wildlife educator and enjoy a nature walk at Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center Saturday, Jan. 9, from 1-2:30 p.m. If snow conditions permit, snowshoes will be available to participants at no cost.

"Winter provides a great opportunity to search for wildlife using tracks and signs they leave behind at Horicon," said Liz Herzmann, DNR educator. "Whether it is an otter slide or a footprint, we can use this evidence to search for animals that are active during Wisconsin's coldest months."

The Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center is located between Horicon, Wis. and Mayville, Wis. on Hwy. 28.
