Over the last five years the Friends of Rib Mountain State Park raised nearly $750,000 for construction of the shelter, which includes a multi-purpose space and indoor flush restrooms, indoor wood fireplace and outdoor stone patio.

The state Natural Resources Board accepted a donation of nearly $680,000 from the friends group in May 2015 to initiate planning and construction of the shelter and additional donations and contributions have helped complete construction of the shelter. The ground breaking for construction of the shelter was in May and the project was completed this September. The shelter is adjacent to main park building, at the top of the mountain.

"The shelter will be a great addition to the park and enhance our visitor experience, especially for the many special events that are held here such as weddings, concerts in the clouds and interpretive programs," said Bill Bursaw, Rib Mountain State Park manager.

The shelter will be available for reservations in 2017.

The Friends of Rib Mountain State Park is a group of volunteers organized for the charitable and educational purpose of assisting the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to improve, preserve, and promote Rib Mountain State Park. The Friends have provided funding and manpower for many improvements and additions to the park.
