Oak wilt confirmed in Washburn County

DNR Northwest Region - Community grants may be available to combat deadly oak disease - SPOONER - Oak wilt, a deadly fungal disease of oaks, has been confirmed for the first time in Washburn County. The Department of Natural Resources forest health lab confirmed the find in wood samples from a red oak tree in the City of Spooner. "This find is particularly concerning considering the rarity of the disease in this part of the state," said Paul Cigan, DNR forest health specialist.
