MILWAUKEE--The Department of Natural Resources is proposing to conduct a prescribed burn in the Havenwoods State Forest in Milwaukee late this month or early May. The amount of acreage burned will vary depending on weather conditions.

Prescribed burn objectives are to maintain and improve grassland, wetland and upland habitats for a variety of wildlife species and to encourage growth of native prairie, wetland and woodland plants. Prescribed burns also reduce non-native, invasive plants. Prescribed burns require specific weather conditions to occur and to achieve the desired affects. Weather conditions considered include temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction.

Questions or comments regarding the burn should be directed to Judy Klippel at Havenwoods State Forest or Paul Sandgren at Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit.
