WAUSAU, Wis. -- Rib Mountain State Park will start accepting applications for the park's new Friends Gathering Space beginning on Monday, November 28, 2016.

Over the last five years the Friends of Rib Mountain State Park raised nearly $750,000 for construction of the facility, which includes a multi-purpose gathering space, an indoor gas fireplace, indoor restrooms and an outdoor stone patio. The three season gathering space was constructed over the summer and had its grand opening in September. The gathering space seats about 75 people.

The facility is only available for renting from May 1 through September 30 of each year. Applications must be made on the application form that can be downloaded from the Department of Natural Resources website.

"We anticipate that this wonderful new facility will be very popular with our visitors, so if interested in a date for 2017 consider applying early," said Bill Bursaw, Rib Mountain State Park manager. However, applications cannot be postmarked before November 28, 2016, and any received prior to that date will be returned to the sender.

To find the Friends Gathering Space Rental Application Form [PDF] search the DNR website, dnr.wi.gov, for Rib Mountain State Park and click on the link for "Amphitheater and Shelters."

Completed application forms should be mailed to Rib Mountain State Park, 4200 Park Road, Wausau WI 54401.

"The park staff at Rib Mountain State Park are very grateful to the Friends Group for their efforts and vision in completing this project," Bursaw said. "The Friends of Rib Mountain State Park have a vision and passion to not only make Rib Mountain State Park a wonderful place to visit, but also to make their community better, and the completion of the Gathering Space certainly does that."

Bursaw expects the gathering space to be popular for birthday parties, graduation parties, wedding rehearsal dinners, business meetings, Eagle Scout ceremonies, family reunions and other social gatherings.
