The Hawks

  1. Yesterday while eating breakfast I heard a loud bang on the window. When I looked out to see what happened I noticed a mourning dove laying in the snow , wings out streached,it looked dead. Out in the oak tree sat a redtailed hawk, watching. When I checked a while later the dove was still there and hadn't moved so I went out to check. As I got close, the dove exploded out of the snow and landed in a maple tree.He seemed OK and was gone when I checked again later.
Earlier this winter I witnessed a sharpshinned hawk take one of the male cardinals out of a pine in the front yard.Last winter I watched him take 2 doves and a hairy woodpecker.I guess if you snooze you loose is true for birds also.
