Well as the ice is melting is anybody starting to think about pan fishing on the first open water? Can be very productive.
Got out today The lakes in my area still have about a foot of ice. So I went to a local river and scouted out the scene. I took the fly rod to maybe go after some pike but the water was too high and fast where I'm at. There were a few lakes in S.W. Wisconsin that were starting to get open spots where they were heavy in springs. I found it odd to be fly fishing into one of them and then not but a couple hundred yards away a guy was ice fishing! But the trout streams are looking good and I'm heading out again this weekend to the Driftless area. Can't wait for the gills.
